History
The first mention of the commune Crucea (Cojoci and Chiril villages) can be found in the church documents from the year of 1676. The oldest documented mention dates back to 1488 when Ştefan cel Mare (Stephan the Great) donated these lands to the Voroneţ monastery. Long time ago, the monks have built, on the “Desert River”, a small shelter where they have built a small wooden cross as place of recognition. Later is was inhabited by outlaws, that met at The Cross river”. The place kept its name and from this came the name of the settlement - Crucea (The Cross).
